3D printed parts & models
Practical parts designed in OpenSCAD and printed at home in ABS: camera mounts, sensor cases and fixes for the smart turtle tank. The finished models are free to download on Printables.
Printed models
Real print
Real printLooki L1 camera mount
A cradle for the Looki L1 wearable camera with a clip that holds it on a hoodie collar. Printed in ABS and assembled; the files are free under CC BY 4.0, and the blog post has the STL downloads.
Real print
Real printHC-SR501 PIR sensor case
A case for the common HC-SR501 motion sensor with a snap-on lid, a window for the dome, access to both trim pots and a toothed clip that grips a tank rim. Printed for the smart turtle tank in about three hours, roughly 15 g of ABS, no supports.
On the bench
Design renderTurtle-cam splash hood
A hood that keeps splashes off the turtle tank camera and clamps to the tank lip. The first printed version snapped at its clips, so the current version is a stronger C-clamp redesign.
Design renderLooki lanyard clip
A lanyard clip for the same camera holder, with an eyelet for the cord. It is sliced on one plate together with the holder and two collar clips.
Real printWatched from the printer cam
Every job runs through OctoPrint on a Raspberry Pi with a camera, spool tracking and timelapses, so a print can be checked from anywhere.
How a part gets made
- 01
Design
Parametric models in OpenSCAD, so a clip gap or a wall thickness is one number to change.
- 02
Slice
PrusaSlicer with a tuned ABS profile: 0.2 mm layers, 4 perimeters, 40% gyroid infill.
- 03
Print
An XYZ da Vinci 1.0A with a 150 × 150 mm bed, sent from OctoPrint with a 3-layer raft.

Finished models go up on Printables with build notes on the Homelab the Right Way blog.
Models are designed with AI assistance and are flagged that way on Printables.
