I’ve been building apps in my spare time for a few years now, and I wanted to share what I’ve been working on. My focus is on practical applications that combine modern web tech with local AI – because I think AI works best when it runs on your own hardware.
My App Development Journey
It started with solving my own problems. Need a wedding photo gallery that guests could actually use? Built VowVault. Want to use my Bee AI wearable without their subscription? Reverse-engineered it into bee-ai-web.
Most of my projects fall into a few categories:
- AI-Powered Apps – Nutricoach-AI, AI-Chess, AI-Social (React Native + Ollama)
- Android Development – Rokid-Maps, path (Bible study app), android-photobooth
- Self-Hosted Solutions – Church-Slides-Studio, Mumble-AI, VirtualPhotobooth
- Unique Ideas – kitchen-heritage (voice-powered recipe recorder), cognizant (teach AI to learn)
Tech Stack
I bounce around based on the project needs:
- Android: Kotlin with Jetpack Compose
- Web: React/TypeScript, Python backends
- AI: Ollama for local models, various LLM integrations
- Infrastructure: Docker, self-hosting on my Proxmox homelab
I’m particularly interested in building apps that don’t require subscriptions or cloud services. Running AI locally means privacy – and honestly, it’s just fun to see what these models can do on consumer hardware.
What’s Next
Currently working on TradeCoachAI (a Kotlin Android trading coach app) and continuing to explore what’s possible with local AI. I also run a homelab with Proxmox where I test most of my projects before releasing them.
